Regulations for certified examinations in Polish as a foreign language at the Maritime English Center - Maritime University of Szczecin
- The Maritime University of Szczecin is authorized to organize state certified examinations in Polish as a foreign language in a group adapted to the needs of adults at levels A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1 (hereinafter referred to as: examinations), as of the decision of the Minister of Science.
- The unit responsible for organizing and conducting exams is the Maritime English Center (MEC) - Maritime University of Szczecin. The exams are coordinated by the State Commission for Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language (hereinafter referred to as: the Commission).
- Examinations are conducted on the dates specified in the schedule of examination sessions established by the Commission. The dates of examination sessions taking place in a given calendar year are available at https://certyfikatpolski.pl.
- All foreigners and Polish citizens permanently residing abroad interested in documenting their level of proficiency in the Polish language, who are at least 18 years old on the exam date, may take the exam (subject to - section 5).
- The condition for admission to the exam is to complete the application form available on the website of the Maritime University of Szczecin https://polski.pm.szczecin.pl, pay the exam fee together with the fee for issuing the certificate and receive confirmation of the place. The transfer costs are fully covered by the payer.
- The fee for taking the exam is as follows:
- EUR 120 – for levels A1 and A2 in a group adapted to the needs of adults;
- EUR 150 - for levels B1 and B2 in a group adapted to the needs of adults;
- EUR 180 - for levels C1 and C2 in a group adapted to the needs of adults;
- EUR 20 – for issuing a certificate.
- The fee is paid in Polish zloty as the equivalent of a given amount in euro calculated using the average euro exchange rate announced by the National Bank of Poland on the last day of the month preceding the month in which the fee is paid.
- The number of places for the certified exam is limited.
- The application form referred to in section 5 is active until the limit of places has been reached.
- Candidates are fully responsible for the truthfulness and correctness of the data provided in the form. These data are the basis for issuing a certificate after passing the exam.
- Payments from those who have not received information about being enrolled will not be accepted - those persons will receive a refund to the bank account from which the fee was paid, after deducting the transfer costs.
- The registration process for the exam is considered effectively completed after the exam fee and the certificate issuance fee are credited to the bank account of MEC - Maritime University of Szczecin and confirmation of awarding a place is issued.
- After successful completion of the registration process as referred to in section 12 it is not possible to change the place, date or level of the exam.
- Exams are organized in a given examination session provided that the required number of candidates register. The final decision to conduct the examination for fewer than the required number of candidates is undertaken by the MEC director.
- If the exam is cancelled by MEC candidates will receive a refund of the amount paid to the account from which the exam fee was paid.
- Candidates requiring adaptation of the conditions and form of the examination to their special health needs, who intend to exercise the right to take the examination in conditions and form adapted to their needs, should submit an appropriate application to the chairperson of the examination committee at MEC no less than one month before the date of the exam attaching, depending on the reported need, a copy of a current medical certificate of disability or a medical certificate of health or an opinion of a psychological and pedagogical counseling center on specific learning difficulties. In the above-mentioned random situations health documents may be delivered at a later date.
- Candidates should present themselves at the place of examination at least 60 minutes before the beginning of the exam.
- The condition for taking the exam is to present a valid passport or ID card with a photo.
- The exam consists of a written and oral part and lasts respectively: in the written part up to 120 minutes at level A1, up to 160 minutes at level A2, up to 190 minutes at level B1, up to 250 minutes at level B2 and C1, and in the oral part up to 10 minutes (A1 and A2); up to 15 minutes (B1 and B2), up to 20 minutes (C1).
- It is prohibited for candidates taking the exam to bring into the examination room: food, auxiliary materials and devices used for transmitting, receiving images and sounds or recording information.
- The chairperson of the examination board interrupts and invalidates the examination in the event of: 1) the examinee bringing auxiliary materials and devices used for transmitting, receiving or recording information into the room where the examination takes place; 2) the examinee's communication with other examinees; 3) the examinee interrupts the course of the examination. The exam fee is non-refundable.
- MEC informs the candidates via e-mail about the exam results after the audit results have been provided by the Commission.
- The condition for passing the exam is to obtain at least 50% of points from the written part and 50% of points from the oral part of the exam (A1,A2); obtaining min. 50% of points from each module of the written part of the examination and from the oral part of the examination (B1) or 60% of points from each module of the written part of the examination and from the oral part of the examination (B2, C1).
- The candidates have the right to inspect a copy of their examination work at the headquarters of MEC at the Maritime University of Szczecin (ul. Wały Chrobrego 1-2, 70-500 Szczecin) after submitting an application within 21 days from the date of receiving information about the exam results.
- A candidate who passes the exam will receive a certificate of Polish as a foreign language issued by the Commission. The Commission issues certificates to the persons who have passed the examination within at least 30 days from the date of receipt of the examination report and attachments. Certificates are delivered the way indicated by the candidates in the application form or collected in person at the MEC office after presenting a valid passport or ID card.
- A candidate who has not taken the exam for reasons beyond the control of the organizer has the right to a refund of the exam fee and the certificate issuance, provided that they submit a written request for a refund and provided that the application is submitted within the deadlines indicated below:
- earlier than 45 days before the exam date - 100% refund of the fee for the exam and for issuing the certificate,
- 45 to 31 days before the exam date - refund of 60% of the exam fee and 100% of the certificate issuance fee.
- MEC does not refund the amount paid for the exam in the event of resignation from participating in the exam less than 31 days before the exam start date.
- Submitting the application form and paying the exam fee is acceptance of these Regulations.
- In matters not regulated by these Regulations the provisions of the Act of October 7th 1999 on the Polish language (consolidated text: Journal of Laws of 2021, item 672, as amended) and the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of February 26th 2016 on examinations in Polish as a foreign language (consolidated text: Journal of Laws of 2018, item 1386) apply.
