Exam About the exam

Who organizes the exams?

Exams are organized by entities authorized to conduct certified exams. Their list is published in the Public Information Bulletin by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, which accepts applications for granting these powers.

Who can take the exam?

Foreigners and Polish citizens permanently residing abroad can take the exam, regardless of whether, where, for how long and how they prepared themselves.
The certified examination in Polish as a foreign language in a group adjusted to the needs of adults may be taken by persons who are 18 years of age or older on the day of the examination.
Persons aged 14-17 can take the certified exam in Polish as a foreign language in a group adjusted to the needs of children and adolescents.

When is the exam considered successful?

The condition for passing the exam in a group adjusted to the needs of adults is to obtain at least 50% of points from each module of the written and oral part of the exam (levels A and B; at level C - minimum of 60%).

When are the exams organized?

Dates of examination sessions are published on the website at www.certyfikatpolski.pl at the end of the year for the next calendar year.

What is a certificate needed for?

A certificate confirming the level of proficiency in Polish as a foreign language is necessary in the procedure of applying for Polish citizenship, to study in Polish or to increase competitiveness on the labour market. This document objectively confirms the competence to use Polish as a foreign language.

How can I get a certificate?

Certificates are issued after passing the exam and paying the fee (20 euros) by authorized entities at the place of taking the exam (the document can be picked up in person or sent to the correspondence address).
A person who is a graduate of a higher education institution, who completed studies in Polish, or a middle school or post-primary secondary school, who has a secondary school-leaving certificate, operating in the education system of the Republic of Poland, after submitting the application and paying the fee for issuing the certificate, receives a certificate without the need to take the exam.
